What Is MBA Cutoff?
An MBA cutoff is a threshold used during admission.
It can be expressed as:

The exact meaning changes according to the exam and college.
For CAT or XAT, cutoffs are often discussed in percentile terms.

Clearing 85 overall only puts an OPEN candidate through the Stage-I minimum requirement.
IIM Calcutta explicitly warns that actual cutoffs can be much higher.

IIM Bangalore CAT Cutoff: Important Interpretation
IIM Bangalore's current 2026–28 admission process states that its initial shortlist requires pre-determined minimum CAT section scores.
However, the current published Annexure gives the previous 2025–27 batch's CAT 2024 thresholds as a reference, including 85 overall for General candidates.
The institute explicitly states that candidates actually called for interviews scored higher than these first-shortlist cutoffs.
Therefore, a responsible 2026 article should not convert that prior-batch 85 figure into a guaranteed IIM Bangalore 2026–28 practical cutoff.
That is a common mistake on MBA websites.
CAT Cutoff of SPJIMR Mumbai
SPJIMR's current 2026–28 domestic PGDM admission criteria publish a qualifying CAT 2025 threshold of:
- Overall percentile: 85
- VARC: 75
- DILR: 75
- QA: 75
But SPJIMR uses:
- Profile-based shortlisting

SPJIMR is particularly important because its admission system shows why students cannot rank MBA colleges only by cutoff.
A very strong profile can matter significantly.
FMS Delhi CAT Cutoff 2026–28
FMS Delhi does not publish one simple official statement such as:
“General Cutoff = 98 percentile.”
Instead, for MBA 2026–28 it calculates a Weighted CAT 2025 Score using:

- DILR: 30%
- QA: 30%
Women candidates receive additional shortlisting marks under the current policy.
The final selection then uses:

MDI Gurgaon uses CAT 2025 for its major 2026–28 domestic two-year PGDM programmes.
The current policy confirms that shortlisting uses:

For IIM Ahmedabad's 2026–28 General/EWS non-PwD threshold, 95 is only the published minimum overall requirement and the candidate still needs 85 in every section plus the academic/profile criteria.
At SPJIMR, 95 is well above the current 85 qualifying cutoff, but profile shortlisting remains important.
Is 90 Percentile Good for MBA?
Yes.
At 90 percentile, students should not think:
“Top IIM or nothing.”
A strong shortlist can include:

Is 85 Percentile Good for MBA?
Yes, particularly outside the most selective CAT-only institutions.
An 85 percentile can also clear the published CAT qualifying level at SPJIMR under the current 2026–28 policy, although it does not guarantee a shortlist.
Students around this range should prioritise:

Is 80 Percentile Enough for MBA?
Yes.
Many private and university MBA/PGDM options become relevant.
But students should become more careful about:

- median placement
- role quality
- batch size
The goal should not be:
“Which college accepts 80?”

“Which college accepting my score is actually worth paying for?”
Is 70 Percentile Enough for MBA?
MBA admission is available.

So work experience can improve the overall profile without changing the published CAT eligibility number.
Does Academic Diversity Affect MBA Cutoff?
At some institutions, yes indirectly.

IIM Ahmedabad explicitly separates applicants across academic categories in its current shortlist framework.
